Friends and former colleagues Aria Hinewai Parker and Roger Walker have joined forces and present new work that reflects their hopes for a better world.
Architectural designer Aria (Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) draws upon the rich references to light that exist in Māori spiritual traditions.
“With the separation of the divine parents Ranginui and Papatūanuku, Te Ao Marama, the world of light, came to be.
“I think of the hope that the light brought to the world and reflect that hope in the art I create.”
Award winning architect Roger has incorporated joy into his architecture for more than 50 years and is now spreading that joy through his art practice.
“Like for many others, the last couple of years have pretty tough for me. Thinking about things that bring me joy, and how to bring that into my art is cheaper than therapy. It also doesn’t require resource consent.
“ I hope this work can bring a little bit of joy into other people’s lives too.”
